During my childhood in France, I always felt unwell. I had asthma, eczema and my gut health was always a problem area for me. Doctors prescribed me medicine for my asthma, steroid cream for my eczema and lots of antibiotics for my acne. Each issue was dealt with individually and with a different drug.

10 years ago, I moved to London, and I started to develop gluten and dairy allergies. From there, it all escalated quickly as I developed more and more digestive issues. I was diagnosed with IBS but still, no one could tell me exactly what was going on with my body, just to count calories!

Frustrated, 2 years later, I started to develop acid reflux. I had so much difficulty drinking, eating and sleeping, it was as if  I was burning from inside. Doctors diagnosed me with a rare condition called Eosinophilic Oesophagitis. It was devastating to discover another health issue that nobody could help me with. To top it all off, 1 year later, I had a laparoscopy where they discovered endometriosis!

What I did to change my health

Through research, I discovered that our mental state and what we eat, both have an enormous impact on our health. By changing our mindset and changing what we eat, we can help reduce symptoms and potentially even avoid certain diseases.

I became a qualified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and I studied Nutritional Medicine to become a Registered Nutritional Therapist. My studies helped me to understand how the body works and how to use the science of nutrition to help and support the body.

During my study, I discovered that our gut plays a huge part in our immune system and in the functioning of our body. I decided that I was ready to re-focus on optimising my health.

I used a functional medicine method called the ‘5r’ to heal myself:

  1. Removed suspected triggers: Candida, parasite, mould and heavy metal, through the use of supplements and food.

  2. Replaced: Improved my digestion by using a technique to improve my Parasympathetic nervous system as it’s responsible for proper digestion. Improved my digestion by taking some digestive enzymes to help the absorption of vitamins and minerals.

  3. Repopulated: Increased my microbes' diversity as the microbiome plays the biggest role in our body, by breaking the food for use, strengthening the immune system, and protecting the body. Reintroduced healthy bacteria through probiotic supplements and fermented food.

  4. Repaired the lining of my gut, as it was leaky and inflamed, caused by the candida and parasites. A leaky gut caused a histamine reaction and food sensitivities and allergies.

  5. Retained a healthy gut by exercising, eating, and managing stress, getting proper sleep and continuing to maintain a diet that supported my health bacteria and strengthened my immune system.

As you can see, you are not alone! I too was in your shoes once.
